Thirty-nine percent of Spaniards understand the concept of the ‘circular economy’, four points above the second-ranked Mexicans with 35 percent and even further behind the 33 percent of Americans and 23 percent of UK citizens, according to the findings of the second annual ‘The State of Plastic Recycling’ report.
The study, commissioned by packaging multinational -Cone from YouGov, was carried out using 5,000 surveys in the US, Mexico, Spain and the UK.
The data shows that the key to increasing consumer responsibility is for consumers to “really understand what recycling and the circular economy is all about”, with its 3Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle. This will increase their participation in the process and put an end to plastic waste.
