The environmental impacts of the linear economy are jeopardising future growth and our survival. This economic model based on “extract, produce, consume and dispose” is one of the main causes of environmental degradation and global warming. The linear economy has proven to be inefficient and is pushing the planet to the limit of its physical capacity.
This paper by the Spanish Global Compact Network focuses on business models based on the circular economy. In addition to compiling data and arguments that show the impacts associated with our current model of production and consumption, it highlights the accelerator areas that can drive change towards a more circular and sustainable model. And, at the same time, it shows how economic profitability can go hand in hand with the circular model, both for companies and for the market as a whole.
