In a context in which more and more Spaniards are encouraging the use of collaborative platforms and responsible consumption, BlaBlaCar, Milanuncios and Too Good To Go have joined forces for the first time to analyse the data of their more than 8, 14.6 and 6.5 million users*, respectively, with the aim of discovering which cities in Spain are most committed to the circular economy.
With the aim of finding out which Spanish city is most aware of limiting greenhouse gas emissions, as well as reusing products and reducing food waste, the study has taken into account “the variable number of seats offered on BlaBlaCar, the new ads published on Milanuncios and the food packs saved on Too Good To Go with respect to the population of each city” during the 2022 financial year.
A total of 143 Spanish cities were analysed. The top positions in the ranking are occupied by Granada, Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Valencia and Pamplona.
The study highlights that, “according to the CIS survey published in 2022, 12 of the top 20 issues of concern to Spaniards were directly related to one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The collaborative economy has gained followers in recent years and, in fact, among the main motivations of users when opting for the use of this type of platform are the ability to save money and sustainability”.
“We have noticed that Spaniards are increasingly resorting to the use of circular and collaborative applications in the last few years. Eighty per cent of users say they have ever bought a product on the second-hand market, and 70 per cent of the total consider it a sustainable alternative. They value the savings but also the environmental impact of using them in such a way that they can cope more easily with current prices, while at the same time their actions have ecological consequences,” said Íñigo Vallejo, spokesperson for Milanuncios.
Marie Lindström, general manager of Too Good To Go in Spain, pointed out that “there is a great change and a greater awareness of responsible consumption and the circular economy in Spanish society as a whole. With regard to food waste, studies show that in the last two years, consumer awareness has doubled due to inflation and a growing environmental awareness that has made us value food and the importance of not wasting it even more.
